4 Reasons Why You Should Share Your Health Story

February 28, 2022 admin 0 Comments

Talking about your problems isn’t always a comfortable process. You put yourself in a vulnerable spot and are opening up your heart and mind to others. While it may feel awkward at the time, it typically makes you feel better in the long run.

Keeping emotions and feelings about your health bottled up creates shame, and you start to think you’re in the wrong. At the end of the day, you have to think about what’s best for you and go with your gut. Be open to exploring the possibility of talking to others. See four reasons why you should share your health story.

It’s Healing

Telling your story is a therapeutic experience. You start to feel a large amount of weight lifted from your chest when you unravel all of your mixed emotions. Part of getting through health issues is medication and dealing with doctors, but another angle is all about finding the right emotional support you need. It’s rare that you’d feel worse about opening up, because in doing so, you don’t have much to lose.

Risks of not doing so

Be careful of the consequences you may face if you keep all of your feelings inside. For example, you may have a really good job and turn to drugs, instead of therapy when you’re feeling stressed out. If your employer notices, it’s likely they’ll run a ten panel drug test, and you could lose your job. Be smart and don’t put yourself in a position that’s going to make your situation worse. You’re already going through a tough time and opening up to tell your story is one way to make sure you have a positive outlet for your worries.

Feel Less Alone

Talking helps you realize that you’re not alone in your struggle and there are others out there who can relate. This causes you to feel less alone in your journey and like part of a bigger fight against disease and illness. You may find a good friend or beneficial support group in the process and realize how important it is to connect with others during your time of need and uncertainty. Being and feeling alone is rough, and you can prevent this from happening by sharing your story. You won’t believe how well you relate to people who are going through what you are.

To Learn

Use this as an opportunity to learn. Educate yourself on your particular health issue. Open your eyes and ears to what others have to say about it. Keep an open mind and try to remove any preconceived notions. The more you learn about how you can help yourself, the better off you’ll be down the road. Learn from others, yourself, and the medical community, and then don’t be afraid to take action.

Talking about your struggles is never easy. It takes courage and an open mind. Take your time, but understand how much you have to gain from speaking up. These are four reasons why you should share your health story
